Zandspiegelingen (2024)

Zandspiegelingen (2024)

In the summer of 2023, I experimented for the first time with the technique of chemigrams. I painted with developer and fixer on old, overexposed, glossy photo paper. Inspired by rugged mountains with sharp edges, I created harsh, zigzagging lines. The images developed slowly, long after I had put down my brush. Sometimes a day would pass. The liquids mixed and formed subtly blurred lines. The original sharp shapes transformed into suggestive dunes and deserts. Unexpectedly, warm tones filled the reflective paper. An unknown world revealed itself to me.

Each piece arose intuitively, but its meaning was still unknown to me. The series ended up on the shelf, where I occasionally retrieved it. I wandered through the sand landscape time and time again, and slowly it became a reality. In the spring of 2024, I ultimately selected seven images where the place and the delay converge.
